They need new hosts for the show.

Maybe I should digitize one of my old radio shows from Alaska in the early 90s and send it to them :)

Zach, I would vouch for you. I would be so proud! And let's be real-- this show was in need of a serious host upgrade. Those dudes were really not entertaining.

"KEVIN LIKES MEN LOLOLOL"

"LOL NO I DONT STEVE"

"YES YOU DO OKAY WERE GONNA PLAY SUM PANTERA"

That's like every single bit of between-song banter they ever uttered. Sayin'. Zach would be much better.

"THIS NEXT SONG IS BY KREATOR, AND IT DROPS FUCKIN' LOADS ON YOUR SILLY DEATHCORE"

You should Zach! You guys definitely have my vote. Then PM me about the realities of working at KISW...

Paid = slightly more than minimum wage. radio is a notoriously low wage gig unless you are a drivetime dj or Howard Stern.

This, and I hear that corporate radio doesn't allow too much in the customization of playlists. But...even so...

Just be sure you consider carefully what it means to take this gig... You can never go to a show on a Saturday. You can never play a show on a Saturday. You can never go out of town for a weekend. Every Saturday night, when everyone else is out having fun, you're in the studio.

I'm sure it's worth it for some, but that's a lot to give up.

Damn. Listened to these guys for years.

I hope the show will go on. Been a listener of Metalshop on and off since Rockfish hosted it.

I do not have a radio show but I majored in communications in college. too bad I thought getting stoned was more of a career.

But remember, you have missed shows on Saturday night to be at home with the wifie and if you were on Metalshop there would be no more of that.

Imagine the music if we were on the air?

Sample playlist-

Impetigo
Sigh
Dream Theater
X-Cops
Maiden
Bolt Thrower
Autopsy

You could never go to MDF, Hole in the Sky, the Metal Cruise.

Thanks for the reminder...... :metalbang:

I was under the impression that they had stuff already laid out that they had to play. I couldn't handle having to play music I hate and acting excited about it.

Zach has a loud, booming voice which would be great for radio (and a face for radio too, ZING! ) and I could hear Jason being his counterpart. I'd listen to a radio show put on by both of them.

I would guess that they actually have control over 50% of the music they play, the rest is pressed upon them by the corporate bigwigs and their definition of "metal." I don't think I'll be going to go for it as I don't want my Saturday nights to be so locked down :)

really good points to bring up! and you've inspired a couple of thoughts:

1. how many shows are actually on Saturday nights?

2. the dj's would get free tickets to all of the 'big' shows. while this isn't of interest to you, it could be an awesome incentive to many on this board

3. sometimes good opportunities require sacrifice. people should weigh the benefits. you don't have to do it forever, but a solid commitment of a year or two (don't tell the radio station that!!!) to something that can move you in a direction you want to be going can be a good thing.

Oh yeah your playlist is given to you and you can make suggestions but they have to be "approved" before it goes to air. :x

So in other words, If I fucking hate Everytime I die, I have to gleefully announce their brand new single

Fuck that.

That is being a poser. I would rather be in college radio where ANYTHING GOES :grimbang:

This is not entirely accurate. Tickets for big name shows are even hard to come by as an employee. They are typically reserved for trade and contests.

The introduction music for Zach and Jason's Metal Show (or is it Jason & Zach's???) should be Blood Of My Enemies!

I think Terry should do it and in between every song scream into the mic with long intros like he's on stage :grimbang:

It would really suck to miss almost every show...Saturday is usually when the best are. Fuck man, I don't even listen to Metal Shop anyways. They don't play anything good when I tune in.

Not entirely true-- if you report to say, CMJ, then you need to track every playlist you do and submit it to them via mail. I don't know the standard of how many mandatory new releases have to be played, but once I did do a show with Paul when he worked at the KSUB studio at Seattle U and he had to play something like 10 songs from new records in his two-hour programming time. Might have even been more.

At my school, we may be internet-only, but we have total freedom regarding what we play and say on-air. Pretty fantastic. My show should be back up within the next two weeks. Not 100% metal, but...I'll plug it when it's back.
